Celebrate World Read Aloud Day with a Free Virtual Book Fest

By: Sydney Spangler

For 13 years, World Read Aloud day has called to the importance of sharing stories by challenging participants to grab a book, find an audience, and read-aloud! The global effort, created by the non-profit LitWorld and sponsored by Scholastic, is celebrated annually in more than 173 countries and is all about bringing people together through the shared connection of reading aloud in all of our communities.

This year, LitWorld and Scholastic are hosting World Read Aloud Day Book Fest, which is a series of fun, free virtual events to bring communities together in celebration of World Read Aloud Day. The events will kick off Monday, January 31, and will continue through World Read Aloud Day on Wednesday, February 2. Readers around the world will have the opportunity to hear from literacy experts and authors, including the 2022 World Read Aloud Day Author Ambassador Tami Charles, author of the "New York Times" bestselling picture book "All Because You Matter" and its forthcoming companion, "We Are."

"We are thrilled to be partnering with LitWorld again this year to sponsor World Read Aloud Day--a powerful reminder of the joy reading aloud brings to communities," said Billy DiMichele, senior vice president of Creative Development, Scholastic. "The widespread impact of this day would not be possible without the longstanding collaboration with LitWorld, and the support of our authors."
